Agriculture

Tipperary has a large dependence on agriculture. It is the second highest contributor to the Carbon emissions in the county after transport. Here in the TEA there are concerted efforts being made to educate and advise, where possible,  the agriculture sector to reduce energy consumption by:

  • Increasing Energy Efficiency on farm
  • Recycling all waste
  • Planning of day to day plant operations to reduce fuel usage

All of these elements are crucial to aid in the reduction of CO2 emissions resulting from agriculture within the county.

Once all of the energy saving measures have been accomplished on a farm, then the attention swiftly moves to the renewable energy production.  94% of energy is imported into the county meaning that the money exchanged for this energy is leaving the county. This must change.

Within this sector, Tipperary with its strong agricultural tradition can become a leader in renewable energy production. Already there is evidence of Wind Energy being harnessed throughout the county. The aim for the TEA is to increase the harvest of energy crops and biomass whilst assisting in the creation of a sustainable market within the county. For every €1 of fuel created within the county results in  €1 staying within the counties economy.
