MOBILISE ENERGY AWARENESS

November 1st, 2007 | Posted by Francoise Hickey

The overall aim of Mobilise Energy Awareness was to bring about behavioural change in the use of energy in the workplace and the home through the adoption of more energy-intelligent working and living patterns by end-users. This was to be achieved by enhancing and expanding access to a greater quality and range of resources on energy awareness in order to support, motivate and enable action.

In order to achieve this, the project focused on the following objectives:

  1. Increase access to, and expand the range and quality of energy awareness materials, information and experience available to those responsible for running energy awareness campaigns.
  2. Establish support and incentive structures for energy awareness campaigns.
  3. Pro-active promotion and dissemination of the information, knowledge and resources available and the benefits of running awareness campaigns.

The project was divided into a number of chief activities or Work Packages and these were:
1. EnergyXchange
2. Student Power
3. Donate Your Energy

EnergyXchange is a website which contains best-practice conservation awareness-materials. These materials are presented on a very searchable platform here and search categories include sectors, themes and types of material. It is intended that the users of this resource become the developers as the material which emerges from their endeavour can also be uploaded onto the website.

Student Power supported conservation in Tipperary Institute delivering 6 lectures and a paper and energy conservation campaign to students in the Rural Development Department. This campaign formed an assignment for the Bachelor of Science in Environmental and Natural Resource Management students and more information can be found here.  These students successfully created awareness and a significant stepping stone from which future degree students can make further improvements.

Donate Your Energy supported an energy awareness campaign in Abbott, Clonmel, Tipperary of which details can be found here. This project took place with the partner consortium and was successfully implemented in Latvia and Spain and more information can be found on this here.
