EU Mobility Week 2009 – Cycling Awareness Campaign

This project was carried out in conjunction with North Tipperary County Council and the Garda Siochana during EU mobility week in September 2009. A photography competition with a bike as the prize for the best sustainable transport photo.

Aim:

The aim of the project was to increase the level of awareness among transition year students regarding the effect of transport emissions on the environment. Six schools were visited in Nenagh and Thurles.

A presentation was given by the Tipperary Energy Agency encouraging cycling and walking to school where practically possible. A presentation was also given by An Garda Siochana regarding safety when cycling and walking.

The six schools that took part in this project were:

  1. The Vocational School, Nenagh
  2. The Christian Brothers School, Nenagh
  3. St. Mary’s Secondary School, Nenagh
  4. The Ursiline College, Thurles
  5. The Christian Brothers School, Thurles
  6. St. Mary’s Secondary School, Thurles
