Energy Neighbourhoods
July 19th, 2010 | Posted by Francoise Hickey

Aim of the project
The overall objective of Energy Neighbourhoods was to bring the ‘Kyoto protocol’ closer to the people and took the form of a bet between the local authorities and their citizens. Energy Neighbourhoods were made up of 8-12 households who tried to reduce their energy consumption by some 8%. Each neighbourhood was supported by specially trained “Energy Masters”. This support was backed up by a customised Tool Kit and constant exchange of experience between the Energy Neighbourhoods. Visit the project website.
Funding
Funding was provided by the EU Commission – Intelligent Energy Europe and the four town councils from Tipperary Town, Nenagh, Thurles and Cahir.
Duration
The project ran for a period of 30 months from October 2007 to June 2010.
