Energy Efficiency in Environment Sites – North Tipperary

Energy Audit:

Because, the Environment Department is leading the Energy Committee in meeting the 2020 33% targets, it was decided that this department would lead by example. An energy audit was carried out on:

1. The Nenagh Recycling Centre
2. The Roscrea Civic Amenity Area
3. The Landfill Office at Ballvehinney
4. The Landfill at Ballymackey

Implementation:

The measures that were implemented as a result of this audit included insulation upgrades to the office at the landfill, automatic shut down of external lights in Roscrea Civic Amenity area and the reduction in lighting/heating requirement in Nenagh Recycling centre.  Other measures that were investigated further was the use of the landfill gas and pumping controls for the leachate pumping in the landfill. Neither of these latter measures were cost effective or feasible.

Results:

In total, 15MWh was saved in these sites totalling approximately €2000.
